Sven Ostermann

My passion for fishing began in the 1970s.
As a child in a non-angling family, it was, of course, not easy, but that did not keep me from being interested and knowing (theoretically) everything about fishing that could be gleaned from publications and angling shops.
Getting a sport fishing license in 1978, which was not yet required in Hessia, completed preparation for my first fishing trip.
Contact with fly fishing through a Frankfurt fishing club began something that has accompanied me ever since.

Beginning in 1995, I have helped demonstrate mostly fly tying at various shows in Europe (Fly Fair, Danish Fly Festival, Experience the World of Flyfishing, to mention a few). In 1997, the Federation of Flyfishers Europe (today’s EFFA-European Fly Fishing Association) began a certification program for instructors and, at their first examination during the Danish Fly Festival in Kolding, Denmark, three Danish colleagues and I successfully completed it.

Since three years I have also been a member of the Semperfli Pro Team.

For several decades, photography, writing for modern media and for articles have supplemented my fly fishing. The high point of these activities has been my co-authorship of “Nymph Fishing – Secrets Revealed” which is now regarded as a standard reference.
I prefer fishing for grayling and my favorite waters are mostly in Slovenia as well as everywhere that attracts me. There are still many places to fish, many flies to tie, and much to photograph and write.
