Amanda Hoffner

Amanda Hoffner has been traveling the eastern United States as a cath lab and cardiac ICU registered nurse over the past few years. During that time, she has been an avid tenkara angler and fly-tier, searching most intently for native and wild brook char (Salvelinus fontinalis). While fly fishing with a tenkara rod, she has caught these fish in 14 states, in addition to other endemic species in their native ranges such as the golden trout (Oncorhynchus aguabonita), Bartram’s bass (Micropterus coosae), Lahontan cutthroat (Oncorhynchus clarkii henshawi), and the Gila trout (Oncorhynchus gilae) in 6 more states. Amanda has a lifetime goal to catch a native and wild fish in all 50 of the United States while fly fishing with a tenkara rod.
She is a board member of the Native Fish Coalition (South Carolina chapter), an ambassador for Tanuki rods, a founding member of the Heritage Tenkara Project, and is now the first female to join the editing team at Tenkara Angler. Amanda has traveled to attend and help host tenkara campouts, given lessons and introductions to tenkara, and fished alongside fellow tenkara enthusiasts from around the world. She plans to help grow awareness of tenkara throughout the US and the world by sharing stories, encouragement, and adventures about her passion for nature and tenkara on mountain streams. In her remaining free time, Amanda operates on social media as Lady Tenkara Bum to help further spread her knowledge and passion.
